Nowadays, creativity and innovation have become fundamental parts of the competitiveness strategies of companies, but how do we enhance these skills?

Although the need to innovate is becoming more and more evident, not all of us have the necessary skills to develop creative and original products and ideation processes. However, these ideation processes are a fundamental phase of any innovation strategy. Therefore, to boost the productivity of our company, we must promote its productivity through processes, products and services updated to the current reality.

This is the main objective of SMEs, startups and the creative industry to increase the quality of the innovation ideas developed and reduce the existing gap between companies in these sectors. However, not all employees can maintain the same capacity for creative creation.

How do we manage to boost the creativity and innovation potential of our employees?

Over the years, many people lose motivation because they do not consider themselves capable of being competent in various areas that they may consider useful, but at the same time, very advanced or complicated.

This happens because our brain consists of two musculatures: the analytical musculature and the creative musculature. In childhood, the predominant musculature in our brain is the latter. Nevertheless, with time we learn to develop the analytical musculature, which begins to take up more space in our brain. As a result, if we do not train our more creative side, it is possible that, eventually, we will consider that we have lost our creativity and, consequently, our motivation.

To train the balance between both musculatures, the engineer and entrepreneur Javier Ideami has developed the Torch methodology. The founder of this method has already taken this approach to four continents, but its origin was born in Silicon Valley thanks to the incorporation of artificial intelligence to human intelligence.

Why including artificial intelligence in innovation processes?

Thanks to studies conducted by the NYU Center for data science and NYU Langone Health, it has been shown that artificial intelligence can help suggest original and unusual connections between a problem and other types of divergent ingredients not originally related to it. In this way, the creative musculature is enhanced by the new challenges posed by artificial intelligence, which contributes to the acceleration of these processes and the development of creativity.

So, what is the Torch method?

It is an innovation ecosystem dedicated to accelerate ideation processes, mainly focused on idea generation procedures. This method combines three aspects: methodology, technology and physical space. It provides and formalizes strategies and exercises that accelerate the ideation processes in a multidisciplinary and multisensory way through a technological platform that allows to optimize these processes, and in turn, measure the results obtained to train the creative musculature and produce more quality and quantity of ideas and innovative solutions.

In addition, Torch includes “creative gyms”, spaces that combine these strategies with areas that promote creative thinking, provide materials that facilitate the application of the methodology and link all parts interconnected by the technology platform.
